Today
we are flying from Kona to Maui. The airport as a little bit of a nightmare,
but once we got through inspection, it was fine. The cool thing about this
airport is all outdoors under a series of hut buildings and walkways.
When
we arrived on Maui, the weather seemed warmer than the other two islands. There
is less of a constant breeze. Saw lots of cloud-covered mountains. Our hotel is
very cute. It’s called the Royal Lahaina Resort. The rooms are all little
bungalows. Ours overlooks the ocean and Molokai, with one of the pools 500
yards away. After getting settled, Drew and went for a walk on the beach and
then to the pool.
At
5, we went over to a luau, where upon entrance, we were lai’d. We were at a
table with one couple on their honeymoon and another celebrating two years. We mingled and walked around to look at some of the artisan people.
Around
6:20, they unearthed the pig which was buried in a pit. All the food was buffet
style and there was plenty to choose from. I tried a little bit of everything,
but didn’t like it all. They pork was very delicious along with the chicken. I
continue to believe that purple food other than grapes, should not be eaten and
avoided the purple sweet potatoes.
After dinner, there was hula dancing. They did hula through the ages, and it told the story of Hawaii. It was impressive to watch how fast the girls and guys could move their hips.
